Job Description
The Deputy Director of Arts will lead mid-scale multi-year programs, overseeing India’s Arts Program Managers to deliver impactful projects across physical and digital platforms. They will deputize for the Director Arts India, managing and supervising the Arts portfolio under the global programs: Culture Connects, Spotlights on Culture, Creative Economy, and Arts Responds to Global Challenges.
The role involves representing the British Council at key arts events, fostering relationships with stakeholders, and ensuring cohesive national programming across India’s five hubs. This position requires managing business functionality, compliance, and operations in a diverse, matrix-structured environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Direct management of Senior Arts Managers.
- Effective project management and transparent, consultative partnerships with stakeholders.
- Convening program boards and ensuring collaboration across UK and India Arts colleagues.
- Leading high-level partnerships and resource planning.
- Monitoring program impact and overseeing research, monitoring, and evaluation.
1.Planning + Operations:
- Supporting India’s Arts team in project management and quality assurance.
- Setting operational standards and providing decision-making authority.
- Reporting to regional leadership and overseeing budgeting and forecasting.
- Managing compliance, risk, and child protection standards.
2.Business Development:
- Building strategic relationships and identifying business development opportunities.
- Managing project pipelines and developing bids, proposals, and business cases.
- Ensuring compliance in legal, finance, procurement, and contract management.
Basic Qualifications:
- Relevant graduate or post-graduate qualification.
- Extensive experience in Arts with knowledge of UK and Indian cultural landscapes.
- Leadership in international programs, including digital initiatives.
- Experience in contract/partnership development and management.
